The Toronto Triathlon Club will be hosting a clinic from 2-4pm to focus specifically on learning the fundamentals of swimming drills. Find out why you should do them, when to use them and practice perfecting them in this 2 hour session. A portion of this clinic time will also be dedicated to flip turns. .
Lead by Coach Miranda Tomenson, this clinic will be divided into two parts. First, Miranda will focus on freestyle drills. Specifically, how to improve your body position, hand entry and pull using specific drills. Second, Miranda will cover all of the basic mechanics for how to safely and effectively execute flip turns for lap swimming. This is an important skill for anyone who is hoping to increase their speed, aerobic endurance and confidence in the pool.
Part 1: Drills
Miranda will introduce drills that can be used to improve body position, hand entry and the pull. These drills will be demonstrated and then practiced by participants.
Part 2: Flip turns
Miranda will show a video and explain proper flip turn execution, including how to safely approach the wall at speed, how to maintain your spatial awareness during the actual flip part of the turn and how to push off underwater once the turn is completed.
Participants must be able to swim 100 metres unassisted and without touching the bottom in a 25m pool.
Needed: appropriate swim wear, goggles and preferably a swim cap and a water bottle, kick boards are recommended, warm clothes for deck.
